Indian Oil to train prison inmates in sports

To help prison inmates build a better life, IndianOil has launched Parivartan, an initiative to train inmates in select sports, at select prisons across the country, the company said.

Hyderabad: To help prison inmates build a better life, IndianOil has launched Parivartan, an initiative to train inmates in select sports, at select prisons across the country, the company said.

The initiative was inaugurated at Central Prison, Chanchalguda by Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil in the presence of Rajiv Trivedi IPS, DIG, Prisons and Correctional Services, Telangana,Y Rajesh, IG, Prisons, Telangana and RSS Rao, Executive Director and State Head, IndianOil -Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The company in coordination with Prisons Department of the respective States, will facilitate training programmes in badminton, volleyball, chess, tennis, and carrom across prisons in India to help improve the physical and mental well-being of prison inmates, it added.

Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman of the corporation, said: "'Parivartan' initiative aims to build confidence and improve the well-being of prison inmates through sports. The programme will complement our ongoing initiative of employing prison inmates and people who have completed their time in prison, as customer attendants at our fuel stations." Rajiv Trivedi, said: "The initiatives for social inclusion of prison inmates is part of the working agenda of prisons in Telangana, which is focused on changing the social stigma associated with imprisonment."
